MATCH REPORT ROUND 1 – 13/10/07

Match Report
There was a lot of nervous energy from the players and the coach for our first round clash against Malvern Marvels.  Things got off to a great start when we won the toss and decided to bat.  All players had the opportunity to bat and everyone concentrated on keeping their wicket intact, evidenced by the fact that we had 8 of our players retire after batting for 4 overs.  After our allotted 24 overs, we scored 4/51.

We took the field full of enthusiasm.  The saying goes that “catches win matches” and Joe teamed up with Liam to take a fantastic catch to dismiss one of their batsman.  It wasn’t quite enough to win the match though, with Malvern scoring 3/95 from their 24 overs.  Both Liam and Connor ended up with the fantastic figures of 1/6 off 2 overs.

At the beginning of the match, we set ourselves the goal of playing to the best of our abilities and to have fun.  We certainly succeeded in this and we finished the day singing the Caulfield team song.

A special thanks to all of the parents who assisted on the day including Hugh (who did the scoring and helped to set up) and the Higgins and Muir families who provided a sensational morning tea.

Captain’s Report, by Jai Bartlem
On Saturday, we played against Malvern Marvels.  I won the toss and decided to bat first.  Josh and I batted first.  In the end we lost.  The best part of the day was when I nearly hit four runs.  What we did well as a team was encouragement and teamwork.
